The Ghana Nebraska Agribusiness and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBcham) kicked off its journey in style with a vibrant onboarding meeting for new members on June 19th. Held at the African Regent Hotel in Accra, the event buzzed with energy as nearly 30 representatives from a diverse range of organizations came together for the first time.

Setting the Stage for Collaboration

GNEBcham Vice President Cecil Sunkwa-Mills warmly welcomed attendees and introduced the interim governing board. Following this, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa took center stage, unveiling the chamber’s blueprint. Ms. Akosa’s captivating presentation painted a vivid picture of GNEBcham’s mission, vision, and core activities. She delved into the chamber’s key interests, its focus on business development, and the exciting range of events planned for the future. Attendees were particularly interested in learning about membership benefits and the diverse partners GNEBcham is working with to build a robust network.

Diving Deeper: Committees and Q&A

The energy remained high as the spotlight shifted to GNEBcham’s subcommittees. Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills returned to the stage, this time detailing the specific scope of work for the Livestock & Poultry and Trade & Marketing committees. Following this, Mr. Ato Brown, Chair of the Membership & Communication Committee, presented his committee’s focus and initiatives.

A lively Q&A session capped off the evening. Attendees actively engaged with the board, raising questions and offering suggestions. One suggestion focused on expanding the Livestock & Poultry committee’s scope to encompass fisheries, reflecting Ghana’s diverse agricultural landscape. Another attendee proposed creating a dedicated WhatsApp group to facilitate communication among members. There was also a call for clear timelines and precise details regarding upcoming chamber activities to ensure optimal member participation.

Building a Stronger Future Together

The trade show and networking opportunities offered by GNEBcham were a key topic of discussion. A board member, drawing on the success of the 2023 Nebraska delegation, highlighted the exposure members gained to innovative agricultural business models, cutting-edge equipment acquisition opportunities, and invaluable networking experiences. They further emphasized the importance of collaboration among farmers, stressing the need to build a strong brand that can unlock increased production volume and value. The potential revitalization of the Tulaku Cattle Market as a result of future trade shows and business development initiatives was also mentioned, leaving attendees hopeful for the chamber’s impact on Ghanaian agriculture.
