The Ghana Nebraska Agribusiness and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBcham) recently met with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Economic, Trade, and Investment Bureau (ECTIB) to explore potential areas of collaboration and partnership. The June 19th meeting, held at the Ministry in Accra, Ghana, marked a significant step towards fostering stronger ties between the organizations and supporting Ghanaian agribusiness development.
GNEBcham Highlights Achievements and Vision
During the meeting, GNEBcham Vice President Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills discussed the chamber’s goals and accomplishments to date. He highlighted the successful 2023 Nebraska trade visit and participation in Husker Harvest Days, a key agricultural event. Ms. Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director of GNEBcham, further elaborated on the chamber’s initiatives, including collaboration plans with universities in Nebraska to establish agribusiness departments and ongoing discussions with USAID-GTI to ensure the continuation of their valuable programs.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Underscores Commitment to Economic Diplomacy
Representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abu Osuman, Director of ECTIB, explained the bureau’s role in promoting economic diplomacy. He outlined their activities, such as facilitating economic growth, infrastructure development, and investment attraction. Mr. Osuman also shared success stories of their efforts, including a $2 million deal struck at the “Made in Ghana Bazaar” and supporting the expansion of Kasapreko’s regional exports.
Building a Collaborative Future
The meeting concluded with a focus on potential collaboration. Ms. Akosa extended a warm invitation to the Ministry to attend GNEBcham’s breakfast launch event on July 17th, 2024. Mr. Osuman expressed keen interest and confirmed a high-level representative, potentially even the Minister or a Deputy Minister, would attend. Additionally, Mr. Osuman agreed to explore partnership opportunities with GNEBcham and connect them with relevant Ghanaian missions abroad. He also expressed tentative support for the chamber’s September Nebraska trade event and potential officer participation.
Both parties emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and ethical practices during the discussions.
