In a bid to strengthen ties and foster agribusiness partnerships, a Ghanaian member business delegation recently visited Nebraska Star Beef, a premier beef production company in the United States.

This visit, organized in partnership with the Ghana-Nebraska Agribusiness Trade Relations Chamber, showcased Nebraska Star Beef’s  exemplary practices in sustainable cattle rearing and beef production, serving as an educational model for members of the delegation, particularly those focused on agriculture and livestock.

Nebraska Star Beef a model of excellence founded in 1867, renowned for its high standards in cattle rearing, processing and distribution, presented itself as an ideal model for agribusiness excellence. The company is known for combining traditional cattle farming with advanced technologies in meat processing, ensuring the highest quality of beef. “The delegation was particularly impressed by the company’s focus on sustainability, from their responsible land use to their animal treatment practices.”  These bring into line with Ghana’s goal of adopting more sustainable farming methods as part of its agricultural modernization drive.

The delegation also explored how Nebraska Star Beef has successfully entered international markets, offering a potential roadmap for Ghana to develop its beef export sector. “This exposure to a global value chain could help Ghana boost its presence in international agribusiness markets.”

A key takeaway from the visit was Nebraska Star Beef’s vertical integration, which allows the company to manage its entire value chain from feed production to processing approximately 10,000 cattle per week. This model of operational control ensures efficiency, high-quality standards and cost-effectiveness, offering a powerful example for Ghanaian agribusinesses looking to strengthen their operations. The delegation recognized that adopting similar practices could significantly enhance their agricultural infrastructure, leading to improved productivity and quality in Ghana’s cattle-rearing sector.

The Ghana-Nebraska Agribusiness Trade Relations Chamber played a pivotal role in facilitating this exchange of knowledge, as part of its broader mission to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, foster agribusiness trade and promote knowledge sharing and capacity building.

By organizing such international programs, the Chamber is opening new doors for Ghanaian agribusinesses, helping them forge strategic deals, create business opportunities and build cooperative trade relations.
The visit to Nebraska Star Beef demonstrates the Chamber’s commitment to this new spirit of agribusiness development, where partnerships are created to strengthen agricultural infrastructure and elevate industry standards.
