Ghana Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBCham) Set to Enhance Agricultural Innovation and Trade between Ghana and Nebraska
The Ghana Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBCham) is a pioneering initiative established in 2023 to strengthen agricultural ties and foster trade between Ghana and Nebraska, USA. The Chamber was conceived through a decade-long effort led by Senator Ken Schilz, a former Nebraska State Senator, who initially connected with Ghana in 2012. His commitment to fostering relationships included hosting various Ghanaian groups and individuals, culminating in a pivotal visit to Ghana in 2022. During this visit, Senator Schilz met Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, founder of Agrihouse Foundation. Their shared passion for agriculture and mutual goal of enhancing crop and livestock value sparked the idea for GNEBCham.
The mission of GNEBCham is to operate as a non-profit entity, dedicated to creating a thriving environment for agribusiness and trade between Ghana and Nebraska. The Chamber aims to support agribusinesses by facilitating international outreach, creating business opportunities and strengthening economic ties through strategic alliances and the promotion of product and service trade. Its vision is to become a central hub for information, trade relations and agribusiness development, driven by government-private sector collaboration, political stability and transparent regulations.
GNEBCham’s goals include integrating Nebraska’s advanced agricultural techniques into Ghana’s agricultural practices, supporting business development and facilitating trade between the two regions. Among its past activities, the Chamber facilitated the participation of a 25-member Ghanaian delegation in Nebraska’s Husker Harvest Days in September 2023. This event, which featured a business-to-business matchmaking session, laid the groundwork for future collaboration.
Currently, GNEBCham operates active secretariats in both Ghana and Nebraska, serving as central hubs for information and trade relations. Ongoing stakeholder engagement continues to advance the Chamber’s mission. Looking ahead, GNEBCham plans to host exclusive networking events, educational workshops and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills in agribusiness.
