The Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Partnership is moving into practical discussions aimed at strengthening Ghana’s poultry industry and creating new opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses.
As part of Day Two of the partnership engagements, former Nebraska State Senator Ken Schilz and Senator Justin Wayne, together with Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Co-Founder of the Ghana–Nebraska Agribusiness Growth and Trade Relations Chamber (GNEBCham), met with members of the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage directly with poultry farmers and industry stakeholders on the challenges facing the sector, opportunities for growth and investment and ways to improve Ghana’s poultry value chain.
A key part of the discussion was how Ghana can learn from Nebraska’s experience in poultry production. Areas such as better farm management, farmer training, disease control and stronger links between farmers, processors and markets were identified as important areas for learning and possible adaptation.
Nebraska’s experience shows the importance of building strong systems around poultry production, from keeping farms healthy and well-managed to supporting farmers with the right knowledge and connecting production to processing and markets.
For Ghana, adapting some of these approaches to local conditions could help farmers improve production, reduce losses and build more profitable poultry businesses. It could also create opportunities for investment, job creation and stronger local production.
The engagement forms part of the broader efforts under the Ghana–Nebraska Agricultural Partnership to move beyond agreements and discussions and focus on practical actions that can benefit Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The partnership is expected to continue creating opportunities for knowledge sharing, investment and collaboration as both sides work towards a stronger, more competitive and sustainable poultry and livestock industry in Ghana.
